Ashley Hurlbert

Ashley Hurlbert is a Partner and co-founder of A&M Law in Missoula, Montana. Born and raised in Butte, she brings deep Montana roots and 18 years of legal experience to every client. Few attorneys in the region can match her courtroom record.

Over those 18 years, Ashley has served as lead attorney in more than 50 jury and bench trials. She has also successfully negotiated and settled hundreds of cases. She is licensed in Montana and admitted in state and federal court.

Ashley earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of North Dakota School of Law. She transferred there after her first year from Willamette College of Law in Oregon. She earned her undergraduate degree in History, with a minor in Political Science, from Montana State University Billings. She also played college softball there. After law school, she built a successful practice in Dickinson, North Dakota. She advanced from associate to partner in just three years.

Her practice spans criminal defense, family law, DUI defense, and landlord eviction proceedings. As a Certified Guardian ad Litem, Ashley is appointed by courts to represent the best interests of children. That experience informs every custody and parenting case she handles. As a Certified Mediator, she has also guided hundreds of parties to resolution outside the courtroom.

Ashley is a breast cancer survivor. That journey reinforced her decision to return home to Montana and build something meaningful. Together with Misty Gaubatz, she co-pioneered the Cooperative Family Law approach. It helps families navigate divorce and custody with less conflict, lower cost, and better outcomes for children.

Ashley gives back to the communities that shaped her. She volunteers with North Bitterroot Little League. She also supports the St. Alexius Foundation, the Domestic Violence Rape Crisis Center in Dickinson, Make-A-Wish, the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Association, and the Silverlinings Cancer Support Group, among others. She is married with three children. She is passionate about family, dogs, golf, fishing, and everything Montana has to offer.
